Capabilities of the Desert Wind™ MIL-STD-810 Blowing Sand and Dust Test Chamber

Desert Wind™ test chambers ensure products reliably perform to specs in harsh environments. They can help reduce or eliminate field failure of electronics, vehicles, and military equipment. The patented design allows testing to meet or exceed the following standards: MIL-STD-810H, DO-160G, MIL-STD-202, and AECTP 300, Method 313.

Our equipment is the only system that can produce a repeatable concentration of sand or dust in the test chamber. This allows for uniform testing that operators can duplicate for repeat testing.

Standard Features

Our Desert Wind™ dust and sand test chambers come equipped with the following standard features:

  • Automated temperature (40°F to 200°F) and humidity (min. 5% RH) control
  • Automated wind velocity control from 0-29+ meters per second
  • Automated dust recirculation and sand disposal
  • Protection from silica exposure

Applications for MIL-STD-810 Sand and Dust Environmental Test Chambers

Several branches of the U.S. military have Desert Wind™ sand and dust chambers to ensure operational readiness. These units consistently win government contracts because of their reliable performance and Air Dynamics’ ability to deliver complete systems on schedule and within budget.

Examples of clients currently using Desert Wind™ MIL-STD 810H Blowing Sand and Dust Environmental Test Chambers include:

  • United States Naval Air Warfare Center
  • U.S. Department of Defense
  • Canada’s Aerospace Technology Center

In addition to military applications, automotive, electronics, and aerospace manufacturers use dust and blowing sand test chambers to validate equipment and vehicles for high-dust and sand conditions.  For example, electronics manufacturers may use a test chamber to ensure that seals or cooling systems hold up in arid, desert-like conditions.

Testimonials Although they laughed, that didn’t faze us – we did our research and we had confidence in Air Dynamics’ application engineer we worked with.

"We’re a resource recovery company. We selected two PLĒCO 30 HP portable vacuum systems configured for bulk pickup. Our customer just laughed at us when the Air Dynamics PLĒCO vacuums showed up. They actually said, ‘they‘d never work!’ Although they laughed, that didn’t faze us – we did our research and we had confidence in Air Dynamics’ application engineer we worked with. The plant had a $100,000 central vacuum system; they even tried a “super sucker” with no decent results. The company gave up trying to recover the powdered tungsten themselves. We had their plant cleaned up in record time, even though the powdered tungsten weighed 1,150 pounds per cubic foot!"

Testimonials

"We love the vacuum and use it just about every day in our normal everyday routine. It has been a major help with maintaining clean floors and machines. We have also used it to unplug clogged pneumatic conveying lines where compressed air did not effectively work. In the past, we used brooms and compressed air to clean which caused the dust to float in the air, moving from surface to surface. The PLECO vacuum eliminates floating dust and its suction is powerful enough to get the fine dust out of the cracks and off the floor quickly. I like that it’s portable to move it where you need it."

- Eric Steigman, Owner, and Plant Manager, Small Valley Milling
Testimonials

"Daniel Lehman was so much more knowledgeable than the competition- probably more knowledgeable than anyone in the country, about industrial vacuums."

- C. Milum, Textile Company
Testimonials We recommend Air Dynamics!

"Working with Air Dynamics was an incredibly enjoyable experience for our engineering firm. They brought expertise to the table that we did not necessarily have in-house, and they conveyed it in a way that was easy for us, our shareholders, and our executives to understand. We would recommend Air Dynamics for anyone looking for a pneumatic or material handling conveying solutions."

- L. Samuelson, Engineer, power company
Testimonials

"The Desert Wind is the best technology we have found for testing and calibration laboratories. We use it within the aerospace and military sectors to assist the creation of parts development and provide part of the certification needed."

- Stephane Carpentier, Dir. Innovation & Development, CTA
Testimonials

"We purchased the PLĒCO 8.5 HP vacuum for our powdered colors business. We chose this substantially built vacuum over a European import that didn’t offer what this American made system did. We purchased a second unit because the first system performed excellent even after filling the canister again and again without affecting the pressure drop across the filters at all.
