Combustible Wet Dust Collectors
- The use of additional dry filter medium, either downstream or combined with a wet collector, shall not be permitted
- The dust collector shall be arranged so that contact between dust particles and particles moving at high speed is prevented (Fan must be located on clean air side)
- Sludge shall be removed from the collector on a regular schedule. The sump of water wet-type dust collectors shall be ventilated from the top of the collector at all times.
- The exhaust vent shall terminate outside the building and be securely fastened
Do You Have an Air & Particle Control Problem to Solve?

NFPA 484 Summary
The dust collector shall be arranged so that the dust laden air stream is thoroughly scrubbed by the liquid to achieve the desired efficiency. The duct shall be as short and straight as possible and shall be designed to withstand the same explosion pressure as the wet-type collector. The exhaust vent shall be inspected and cleaned to prevent build-up of highly combustible deposits of metal dusts on the interior surfaces of the duct.
Cleaned air shall be permitted to be returned to the work area where tests conducted by an approved testing organization prove the collector's efficiency is great enough to provide both personnel and property safety in the particular installation, with regard to particulate matter in the cleaned air and accumulations of particulate matter or hydrogen in the work area.
