Normally, for powders with a density of 35 - 55 pcf., the minimum choice is suitable.
For heavier materials, a higher horsepower choice is required.
For ultra-fine powders like carbon black, talc, and the oxides, select an air to cloth ratio below 6.5:1.
(The systems NOT suitable for this service are marked red above). See Buyer Tips to get a machine that handles super-fines.
All these systems make wonderful little central vacuum systems. The "P" Series will support a pipe networks up to 400 ft. long without modification.
The regen powered Samson systems must be fitted with the optional $125 relief valve when used with a central system.
The PD powered machines (the "P" Series and the DuroVac) are used for serious, heavy cleanup jobs. The 7.5 Hp machine will pick up approximately 40 pounds of material per minute based on a material density of 80 pcf.
The 10 Hp machine will pick up approximately 60 pounds per minute through a 2" hose 50 ft. long. Since the PD systems can move material so quickly, the Large canister versions are usually recommended; as well,
various inexpensive options are available to provide external storage up to 2 cubic yards. Please see Vacuum Accessories.
The best measure of performance is pickup power. The 10 Hp unit picks up 60 lbs./minute as mentioned. Main competitive units pick up only 30% of this.
This is because many of these units use a centrifugal vacuum pump.
