MIL-STD-810F Desert Wind™ Dust/Sand Test Chamber

MIL-STD-810F Desert Wind™ Dust/Sand Test Chamber MIL-STD-810F Desert Wind™ Dust/Sand Test Chamber

MIL-STD-810F Specifications

Welcome to our highlights page for our Military Standard 810 F Desert Wind™ Dust/Sand Test Chamber. One of our first Skunk Works ® Projects created in our state-of-the-art design center.

The challenge was presented to Air Dynamics to devise a dust/sand test chamber that meets the MIL-STD-810 F test specifications.

MET Laboratories in Baltimore, MD requested a test chamber that supports NIST, A2LA Tracability in all test parameters. The booth would test items as large as 36" W x 36" H x 36" D.

The design, test and evaluation community recognizes a test chamber environment is not the real world. As the specification states, "users should not assume that a system or component that passes laboratory tests of this standard also would pass field/fleet verification trials"!

How confident is the manufacturer/laboratory that tests a device to MIL-STD-810 F specs knowing it's not likely to pass field trials?

MIL-STD-810 F requires particle concentrations of ten (10) plus or minus seven (7) grams per cubic meter for the blowing dust test, see 2.3.2.6a. page 510. 4-5. This concentration variable is stated as a Test Chamber Limitation.

If we intend to "test" the ability of a device to meet the real world environment, would it make sense to meet or exceed those conditions in our test apparatus?

The dust/sand test chamber designed here meets and exceeds the specification by a factor of 100 measuring each parameter (temperature, humidity, velocity and concentration) in real-time. Dust concentration is measurable from .01 mg/m³ to 1,000 mg/m³.

For those striving to meet MIL-STD-810F standards in the testing and certification of your manufactured device OR laboratories who wish to certify a device, you may find the specification to be confusing at best and impossible to measure test results with methodologies described in the specification.

That said, the U.S. Army Test Lab best describes "what" MIL-STD-810F comprises. Air Dynamics delivers the following:

Computer Designed/Enhanced Dust/Sand Test Chamber MIL-STD-810F, NIST, A2LA Tracability

- Temperature - Ambient to 200° F / 93° C
- Relative Humidity - Zero to 30% RH
- Chamber Air Velocity - Zero to 1,750 ft/m (8.9 m/s)
- Dust Concentration Level - .01 mg/m³ to 1 kg/m³

Each parameter is displayed and recorded in real-time. Batch tests can be recorded and displayed on your remote pc via Ethernet connection. All chamber sizes are designed to meet your specific test chamber requirements.

Combination Dust/Sand MIL-STD-810F Test Chamber

This test chamber combines test capability for sand and dust conforming to MIL-STD-810F specification requirements.

Sand Test Chamber Specifications

- Temperature - Ambient to 200° F / 93° C
- Relative Humidity - Zero to 30% RH
- Chamber Air Velocity - Zero to 5,700 ft/m (29 m/s)
- Sand Concentration Level - Zero to 2.7 g/m³

Please call to discuss your sand/dust test requirements!
