Designed for commercial kitchen ventilation, the CKV HydroDynamic Scrubber™ removes grease,
smoke and odor from the commercial cooking process.
This Air Pollution Unit (APU) is the next generation in cost effective
pollution control for commercial cooking. The discharge of grease, smoke and odor from commercial cooking operations is no
longer permissible in many municipalities.
The CKV HydroDynamic Scrubber™ is suitable for 24/7 cooking operations.
Each year, commercial cooking operations cause more than $100 million dollars
in fire damage to property. Other damage includes grease induced deterioration of rubber
roofing, stains on building exterior and contaminated HVAC coils resulting in high
maintenance and energy costs.
According to a 2006 white paper report commissioned by FoodService
Consultants Society International (FSCI), current technology for CKV grease removal is
less than 50% efficient.
The commercial cooking process generates grease in the form of droplets
(particulate matter) and grease vapors (gas or condensable PM). Impingement style filters
and baffles are less than 50% efficient at capturing particulate matter (PM) greater
than 2.5 microns in size. Filtration efficiency on grease particles less than 2.5 microns and grease
vapors is near zero.
How does one capture the remaining 50 to 75% of grease droplets and
vapor currently being exhausted into the atmosphere? The CKV HydroDynamic Scrubber™ uses
an approach suited to the airstreams pollutants. This technology becomes an ideal solution for
grease, smoke and odor. The CKV HydroDynamic Scrubber™ is highly effective in the removal of grease particulate and grease
vapors in CKV operations.

CKV HydroDynamic Scrubber™ Description
1. Pre-scrub Section
A distribution manifold provides a liquid & gas phase scrubbing at the scrubber entrance. This
section provides approximately 50% of the scrubbing of the process gas stream.
2. Scrubbing Section
The scrubbing elements direct the air to move through openings in the chamber.
The water in the element combines with the air stream providing liquid and gas phase
scrubbing action.
The air impinging against the surface of the liquid provides a continuous scrubbing action
in the particulate contaminated air stream. A majority of the scrubbing action (particle and
gas phase) takes place here. Up to 98% efficiency is attainable.
3. Mist and Droplet Eliminator
The eliminator section strips off the droplets and mist carried over from the scrubbing elements.
As the droplets impinge against the mist eliminator element, the droplets are removed.
4. Level Controls
A level control device provides level control within the CKV Scrubber.
5. Blow-down
The blow down system provides sequenced cleaning of the CKV Scrubber liquor.
The blow down process is tailored to the operation of the kitchen operation or schedule.
Liquid Distribution and Liquid Treatment Systems
6. Chemical Treatments
The CKV scrubber is adaptable to many processes in which alkaline or acids may be added
to maintain the proper pH level for a particular gas/liquid contact absorber or stripper
application. Proprietary additives are available to increase grease vapor collection
efficiency and airstreams.
7. Smoke/Odor Treatments
Smoke and odor controls are located at the tail of the CKV HydroDynamic Scrubber device.
Smoke and odor are captured using static filters with efficiencies of 99.97% @ .3 microns
filtration efficiency.
